A medically supervised GLP-1 program at our Edgemont clinic in NW Calgary — full clinical assessment, dose titration managed step by step, and scheduled follow-up. Pharmacist-led, no referral required, from $155.
GLP-1 medications — semaglutide and tirzepatide are the two molecules behind every brand name you have heard of — work by acting on the hormone signalling that governs appetite and satiety. They are genuinely effective, and they are also the part of treatment people focus on to the exclusion of everything else that determines the result.
A prescription on its own is not a program. What changes the outcome is the structure around it: an assessment that establishes whether the medication is appropriate for you at all, a titration schedule that raises the dose slowly enough to stay tolerable, someone tracking side effects before they become the reason you quit, and follow-up visits that keep the plan moving when the scale stalls. That structure is what you are paying a clinic for.
If you want the background reading first, our guides cover how GLP-1 medications work for weight loss, how semaglutide and tirzepatide compare head to head, and how to manage side effects without stopping treatment.
Three stages, and none of them is optional.
A full review of your health history, current medications, weight history, and goals — including anything you are taking that works against weight loss. This is where we decide together whether GLP-1 therapy is a suitable option for you, and which one.
Treatment starts at a low dose and steps up on a planned schedule. The pace is set by your tolerance, not by a calendar — the goal is to reach an effective dose you can actually stay on.
Scheduled visits every four weeks for dose optimization, side-effect management, and progress tracking. When results plateau, we reassess rather than guess.
Alberta pharmacists practise with one of the broadest scopes in Canada, assessing and prescribing within that regulated scope. For you that means the assessment, the prescribing decision, and prescription coordination happen in a single appointment — no referral, no second clinic, no waiting weeks to start.
It also means your care is directed by the clinician trained specifically in medication: dosing, interactions, tolerability, and a proper review of everything else on your list. Several common medications quietly promote weight gain, and some have alternatives that do not. That review is routine here and almost never happens anywhere else.
Your care is led by Wessam Sakr, BScPharm, RPh — Clinical Pharmacist, Certified Bariatric Educator (Obesity Canada) and Certified Diabetes Educator (Diabetes Canada), with over nine years in direct patient care. He works collaboratively with your other healthcare providers when that is appropriate.

Medical weight management is for people whose weight has not responded to diet and exercise alone, and for whom that is a health issue rather than a cosmetic one. Eligibility for pharmacotherapy in Canada is assessed against BMI thresholds together with weight-related health conditions, waist circumference, and ethnicity-specific cut-offs — we cover the detail in who qualifies for weight-loss medication.
Medication is never a requirement. If assessment suggests a different approach is more appropriate for you, we will say so — that is what the assessment is for.
Obesity is managed as a chronic condition, which means treatment that maintains a result is treatment doing its job. If you want to understand that framing before you start, read why obesity is a chronic disease, not a willpower problem.

No. You can book an initial assessment directly. Whether GLP-1 therapy is appropriate for you is decided during that assessment, based on your medical history, current medications, and goals.
The entry program is $155 in total — an $80 initial consultation plus three monthly dose-optimization follow-ups at $25 each. The three- and six-month Core programs are $500 and $900. Medication is billed separately by the pharmacy that fills your prescription and is not included in any program fee.
No. Program fees cover clinical care — assessment, prescribing decisions, titration planning, and follow-up visits. The medication itself is a separate cost, and we will tell you what to expect before you commit.
That is a clinical decision made at your assessment, not something we can answer in advance. Semaglutide and tirzepatide are not interchangeable, and the right choice depends on your health history, tolerance, other medications, coverage, and availability.
Doses are started low and increased in steps to limit side effects, so the first weeks are about tolerance rather than the scale. In the published trials the escalation phase alone ran about 16 weeks, and weight loss continued for roughly a year before flattening.
Alberta pharmacists practise with one of the broadest scopes in Canada and can assess and prescribe within that regulated scope. In practice it means your assessment, the prescribing decision, and prescription coordination happen in the same visit — without a referral or a second clinic.
Tell us rather than stopping on your own. Most side effects are dose-related and manageable by adjusting the pace of titration; monitoring for them is exactly what the scheduled follow-up visits are for.
